3+1 ways to use potatoes

How did it become one of the world's favorite ingredients?

The history of the potato began more than 7,000 years ago in the mountains of Peru. For the Incas, it was not only a nutritious food, but it was revered almost as a sacred plant.

When it first appeared in Europe, it was not an undivided success - it was considered strange and even dangerous in some places. (This was helped by the fact that initially they did not eat its root tuber, but its otherwise poisonous, above-ground parts.) Later, as it was used in more and more countries, it quickly proved to be a real culinary treasure.

The secret of success

The genius of potatoes lies in their simplicity. Whether it's a casual lunch or the delicacies of a Michelin-starred restaurant, potatoes are everywhere.

In addition, a large amount can be produced in a small area. It is very resistant, adapts well to differences in temperature and altitude.

Today, our kitchen would be unimaginable without it - just think of how many of our classic dishes are the main ingredient. It's no accident that it's still so popular after all these years - potatoes have become a true global favorite over the centuries.

Classics with a twist: 3+1 ways to use potatoes

1) Mashed potatoes like you've never tasted before

The secret lies in the texture: there is nothing better than creamy, silky mashed potatoes!

Use a portable blender to get started! With this method, the puree will be much lighter and airier. Add a little extra butter and throw in some Parmesan cheese too! This way, the texture will be even creamier and you will also enrich the taste.

And if you want to enhance the experience even further, add fresh parsley or chives.

2) Perfect home fries

Cook the potatoes for a few minutes first, so they don't need much time in the oil. Now comes the twist: you have to bake it twice. Pay attention to the oil temperature! You can easily check this with a kitchen thermometer. For the first baking, work at a lower temperature (170°C) so that the inside of the potatoes is soft, then raise the heat (185°C) to achieve the real, crispy, golden brown exterior during the second baking.

Tip: Dry the potatoes well before baking. A paper towel or clean kitchen towel is perfect for this purpose!

If you want to do it like the pros, get professional tools like a potato chipper or a oil fryer.

3) Your favorite food, a little different: potato casserole

The traditional potato casserole is almost never boring, but how about adding a little twist to it? Try it with different cheeses, such as smoked cheese or cheddar, which add richness and character to the dish!

And while we're at it, why not throw in a few slices of crispy bacon?

+1) Potatoes in bread?

Imagine the smell of freshly baked homemade bread... Potato bread takes traditional bread baking to a new level. The added potatoes give the dough extra moisture and softness, so the bread stays fresh for a long time.

Tip: The warm sandwich made from potato bread is unbeatable! Make a simple sandwich and then put into the contact grill!
