Homemade pita bread with recipe video

Make heavenly pita with your ANKARSRUM food processor and with our help. We also add our recipe from the ANKARSRUM recipe book and a recipe video!

Ingredients - for 12 pitas

250 ml lukewarm water
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of sugar
10 g (2 teaspoons) olive oil
370 g - 400 g flour ("0" type or universal flour)
½ teaspoon instant dry yeast

Pita bread step by step:

Watch our recipe video here!

• Assemble the ANKARSRUM with the 7-liter stainless steel mixing bowl, the kneading spiral hook and the kneading roller, as well as the scraper for the mixing bowl, which prevents the dough from sticking to the walls of the bowl. These are parts of the basic set, get to know the contents of the box by clicking  HERE and HERE!
• Mix the water, salt, sugar and oil in the 7 liter stainless steel mixing bowl of your ANKARSUM food processor.
• In a separate bowl mix the flour with the instant yeast.
• Pour the flour mixture into the bowl of your ANKARSRUM food processor and mix at low speed for about 5-8 minutes.
• The dough is ready when it passes the window test. The essence of the window glass test is to take a ping-pong ball-sized dough out of the 7-liter stainless steel mixing bowl of your ANKARSRUM food processor, hold it with both hands with your thumb, index and middle fingers, and then carefully pull the dough apart. If the texture of the dough is right, it should stretch without tearing, so thin that you can see through it. If it's still sticky, let it rest for 5 minutes, then continue kneading a little more. If you add more flour, add a little.
• Take the dough out of the ANKARSRUM metal bowl, turn it over, fold it and shape it into a ball. Now grease the inside of the bowl with oil and put the dough balls back, then grease them with oil and cover.
• Let the dough rise for about 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
• Unfold the dough and knead it gently, then divide it into two equal parts. Divide each part into 6 more equal parts and form small balls from each part. Sprinkle them with flour, then cover with foil.
• Take a ball of dough in your hand and place it on the floured surface, then sprinkle flour on it and roll it out into a circle with a rolling pin (it should be about 15 cm in diameter and about 0.5 cm thick). Make sure that the pita breads are evenly stretched and of the same thickness.
• Place the shaped pita breads on a floured surface, cover them with a damp tea towel and let them rest for approx. for 20-30 minutes.
• While the pita breads are rising, turn on the oven at 230°C.
• Place the pita breads on a baking sheet covered with baking paper and bake them for 2-4 minutes, then turn them over with a wooden spoon or tongs.
• Bake them for another 1 minute, then take them out of the oven. Keep the freshly baked pita breads wrapped in a kitchen towel, so they remain soft while the other pita breads are baked.

ANKARSRUM tip:

Pita is also a perfect food saver, as you can wrap leftover roasted meats in it, toss it with salad, creams, and pastes, so the possibilities are truly endless!
