Test: PELAMATIC electric walnut cracker

It is always a huge struggle to extract the interior of a walnut from its shell. If you crush the shell properly, the inside will also be in pieces. If it's not cracked properly, that's the problem. There are plenty of nuts in the family, but no one wants to peel them. Familiar?

It is therefore not surprising that I waited with great curiosity for our first Pelamatic shipment from Spain, which included a walnut cracker. As soon as it arrived, I already went to my parents for nuts, I brought a few kilos for testing, both small and large ones.

The machine itself looks suspiciously simple, although it is surprisingly heavy for its size (about 3 kg). In addition to the on/off button, there is a total of one push button on it, which starts or stops the movement of the walnut cracker mechanics (can also be set to continuous mode). There is a screw at the front of the machine, with which you can adjust the size of the walnut you want to crush. I could fit a walnut with a cross-section of up to 35 mm, I've seen nuts bigger than that, but it's not that common.

I opened the opening about 3/4 of the way, so it fit about 90% of the nuts (the rest were either smaller - they slipped through, or bigger, they didn't even fit, in the end I crushed them with two rounds). I set the machine to continuous mode using the slider. The machine is quite loud! It would be a shame to deny that, so it must work to make someone endure this for long minutes...

I started to put the nuts in, and I was completely unprepared for the speed of the machine. It would be difficult to convey this in words, it is much better if I show you the video right away!

As you can see in the video, the cracking mechanism is constantly moving, so the inserted walnuts don't stand a chance. Due to the special, cone-shaped design, the nut is affected by force from almost all directions, so your walnuts will crack in many places.

But what about the inside of the walnuts? As you can see in the video, the inside of the walnut stays perfectly together, it does not get crushed:

From this it follows very quickly that it is very easy to peel the cracked walnut. I simply snap off the crushed shell and pull out the membrane. Of course, I'm not saying that all the nuts stay together so nicely. But 90% of them do! There is no cheating in the next picture, I simply peeled a box of crushed walnuts. Where are the small pieces, where is the debris that constantly causes annoyance during the hammer or hand crushing method? Nowhere - I didn't throw it away or hide it from the photo, it wasn't even created in the first place!

I was done in less than an hour, including photos, video recording, and initial lameness.

I think I like shelling wal nuts with the PELAMATIC electric walnut cracker now! :D

Peeled walnuts (especially when it comes to such or even larger quantities) are rarely used immediately. It can be frozen very well, but if you put it in a plain bag, it tends to take on the taste of the freezer. That's why I vacuumed this (like many other things) with a TAKAJE vacuum sealer!
