Cow's milk or plant milk?

One of the most topical topics these days (when it comes to food) is whether cow's milk or plant-based milk is healthier. Of course, many people do not examine the issue from this point of view, but instead consume the plant-based version for reasons of principle or because of lactose intolerance or milk allergy.

But on what basis should milk be considered when both options are open: consuming cow's milk and vegetable milk?

Cow's milk is fundamentally healthy: it has a high calcium, vitamin D and potassium content. This is contributes to the health of bones and teeth and can lower blood pressure.

Its carbohydrate content is provided by milk sugar, i.e. lactose. It also contains essential amino acids, as well as two types of protein - thereby contributing to the healthy building of muscles. At the same time, most of the fat in milk is saturated fat, the consumption of which should be reduced in certain cases (from a dietary point of view).

It is difficult to make a sharp contrast between cow's milk and plant milk. They cannot really replace each other's benefits and beneficial effects.

  • For example, cow's milk cannot compete with the variety of plant milks (soy milk, peanut milk, almond milk, rice milk, oat milk, coconut milk, and so on).
  • Almond milk is low in fat and sugar and contains many vitamins and minerals. However, its protein content is quite small.
  • Hazelnut milk has a particularly high vitamin B and vitamin E content - at the same time, it is also rich in fat and calories.
  • While oat milk is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and protein, its sugar content is also low.
  • It is also a fact that plant-based milks are naturally lactose-free - but it is also true that nowadays lactose-free cow's milk is not considered exceptional either, you can buy it in most stores.

And it doesn't hurt to mention that plant-based milks are usually much more expensive than cow's milk. However, there is a solution for this!
