These were the most popular Christmas dishes

Christmas is a great event not only for gifting but for sharing fabolous meals. Eating together with the family is a part of the celebration just the same way as the Christmas tree, gifts and fancy wrapping papers. So we were quite curious which dishes were the most popular this year. Having the hot photo sharing platorm Instagram at hand we made a little research among the top gastro trends.

First we took a look at the typical hashtags. You can find now more than 3 millions of posts marked with #christmas2017 hashtag and even for #christmasdinner there is more than a million of posts on Insta. Most of them are older posts so it makes sense to filter with the current year to see what's trending.

Let's start with one of the top finalists, the well-known mac with chicken and shrimps. Well, this pasta has nothing to do with macaroni, so it looks like sometimes you don't need to be precise for popularity:

In the United States next to the evident Chrismas candies (#christmascandy - 48 thousand posts) turkeys appear in countless posts (#christmasturkey - 14 thousand posts), quite predictably. The most popular dessert was, however, this mouthwatering chocolate-caramel-almond cookie with its > 5,000 likes:

OK, let's not neglect poor turkey, take a look at this dish coming directly from BBC Good Food magazine:

Christmas without gingerbread? No way! One of the most popular cakes worldwide, famous in the US but also in Germany (just think of the Grimm Brothers' tale of Hansel and Gretel). If you prefer to make cookie from gingerbread instead of building a house, here is a little inspiration:

Never forget #christmasfoodporn! Here is our favorite that mixes Rudolf, the Reindeer with a chocolate donut!:

And the winner of the international gingerbread competition and maybe of the whole Instagram-Chrismas is... "Gingerbread house" and its tiny tenant! :)
