Carnival doughnut ideas

The tradition of the carnival doughnut

The tradition of carnival doughnuts is closely related to the 40-day fast before Easter. After all, carnival is just as much a moving holiday as Easter. Now for some carnival math: Easter is the Sunday and Monday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox. The carnival is the festive period preceding the 40-day fast before Easter, which begins on January 6. Actually, the carnival and the following fast fill the period between the two biggest Christian holidays, Christmas and Easter.

So during the carnival period there are no forbidden foods, in fact, these two months or so are all about merriment, balls, dancing and sweet tastes. The period of carnival joy ends with Maundy Thursday. Then begins the period of abstinence, Lent.

Where does the tradition of carnival donuts come from? It is associated with snacks before the fasting period, as well as with the spring matchmaking period and the search for a spouse, since the round shape of the Hungarian donut symbolizes love as well as the wedding ring.

What kind of doughnut should we make?

Let's see what versions there are of this delicious dessert, the basic Hungarian type of which is the basic doughnut. But what other types are there?

Angel wings

Angel wings have a tradition in Hungary. This doughnut was an accompaniment to the traditional carnival doughnut. According to the recipe, flour, egg yolk, butter and sour cream, as well as yeast dissolved in milk, must be mixed and then left to rest for half an hour. We recommend the universal food processor javasoljuk.

You will be able to make all kinds of donuts easily with this machine, and many other foods too. The dough is then rolled out to a thickness of 4 mm. Cut rectangular pieces the size of your palm. Cut 2-3 more strips in the middle of the small rectangles. Fry the pieces in plenty of oil. It can be flavored with jam or cinnamon-powdered sugar.

Churros

Churros are sweet thin donuts associated with Spain. In fact, this sweet is also widespread in Portugal, France and Latin America, the origin of which is not known exactly. The dough is simple: the dough made of flour, water and salt is fried in hot oil. Either thin rings or small strips are baked from it. Its characteristic shape is achieved with a pastry bag. We press out the soft dough through this. We recommend a star-shaped head. Ready-made churros are a divine, easy-to-prepare delicacy, which is eaten with hot chocolate, for example, in Madrid.

Princess doughnut

Princess doughnuts are one of the most delicious sweets, it is made with a characteristic choux pastry. Making choux pastry is a more complicated operation, but you don't have to be afraid of it. Choux pastry is flour-based dough cooked with water and fat, which suddenly starts to sizzle, which is why we call it burnt dough. The mass must be cooked at a high temperature. By the way, the dough for churros is also choux pastry. The prinsess doughnut must be filled with homemade cream. However, instead of the simple vanilla cream, you can make a white chocolate, strawberry or coffee cream.

These doughnut wonders can be prepared at home. However, restaurants and buffets need to produce fresh delicacies in large quantities. This also requires special tools. You can also find these doughnut fryers in our offer!
There's nothing left to do, but to kick off the carnival season with an American doughnut with peanut butter, which is the envy of all police officers, or a traditional doughnut and homemade jam. Whichever doughnut you choose, you won't be disappointed!
